Many people, tired of constantly touching up their eye makeup at inconvenient times, are turning to lash lifts to give their eyes some extra oomph. When applied by a salon professional, a good lash lift should last six to eight weeks, and you’ll see that your new lashes will be very low maintenance.
However, there are a number of things you can do to remove the volume far ahead of its lifetime. These are four big no-nos that can ruin your lash lifts – carefully avoid them!
Doing Damage The Day After The Procedure
The first 24 to 48 hours after you get the lash lift treatment are the most important for keeping the hairs looking their est. This is because the lash lift solution hasn’t quite finished setting, so the treatment is still soft and malleable. It’s important to take extra precaution so that you do not damage the lifts, meaning:
- Do not get them wet for the first 24 hours. This means swimming, washing your eyes, saunas, steam, or sweat.
- Do not rub your eyes for the first 48 hours (and after, too, but especially in the first two days).
- Do not sleep on your side or stomach – sleep on your back.
- Do not wear a sleeping mask.
- Do not put on eye makeup like mascara.
After 48 hours, you’ll see that the shape and colour will stick around no matter how late you’re out or how you sleep!
Using Oil On Them
They might seem safe – after all, coconut oil and castor oil are natural, right? But these oils can wreak a lot of havoc to your lash lifts, breaking down the silicon rods and causing the lashes to lose their shape. If you use them as a part of your makeup application or to remove it, stop! Find another gentle makeup remover that is safe for lash lifts.
This also means taking care to avoid oil-based products of all kinds. Carefully read any and every product you might need to buy, and make sure oil-free is prominent on the packaging.
Using Waterproof Mascara
Waterproof mascara and water-based makeup removers have chemical additives that are extremely drying and damaging to the lashes. This means you’ll lose your volume much quicker than the normal duration.
You might not need to use mascara for the duration of your lash lift, but if you’re looking to add some more colour, avoid the waterproof kind. Don’t worry, though – after the first two days, your lashes will be safe from all kinds of moisture!
Not Taking Proper Care
Lash lifts are an incredibly low-maintenance option, but there are still a few things you can do to take care of them. Take a few seconds at the beginning and end of each day to brush your lashes out with a spoolie brush. This is especially important if you’re a stomach sleeper!
